Eddie Lang Day Philadelphia 2016 
is a Huge Success .... 2 times ! 

This year Eddie Lang Day Philadelphia was celebrated
not once , but Twice !
Sunday Oct 2nd was the Gala Fundraiser event held
at Kimmel Center . It featured a Cocktail Reception
with live music by Philadelphia Mandolin Ensemble ,
Silent Auction and a chance for friends and fans to meet
and network before moving upstairs to the main event.
Blackbird Society Orchestra , in it's full 13 pc ensemble,
presented a 2 hour program filled with Lang/Venuti 
highlights as well as other songs from the Jazz Age.
Richard Barnes hosted the afternoon and introduced songs
as well as special guests and speakers including :
Councilman Mark Squilla , Consul General of Italy 
in Philadelphia Andrea Canepari and Ed Massaro ( nephew
of Eddie Lang ) and presented Massaro with the Philadelphia
Liberty Bell Award .
This years charity was Dancing Classrooms Philly as well as
Musicopia - both helping children in dance and music programs in the Philadelphia area.

As an encore to that event , the celebration continued on 
Sunday Oct 23rd with a special , larger than life , wall
mural dedication service hosted by Mural Arts Program
of Philadelphia, founded by Jane Golden.
The wall is located at 7th and Fitzwater Streets in South Phila,
just a short stroll from Lang's boyhood home on St Alban St.
This event, on a perfect sunny Autumn day featured live music
again by Blackbird Society Orchestra , special guest speakers 
and was well attended by locals as well as fans and family , some travelling from Virginia to witness this Historical day.
Richard Barnes was honored for his work and contributions for over 2 decades with another Liberty Bell Award , this time 
presented by Philadelphia's City Representative Sheila Hess.
